Under the direction of Robert Guarino, the Stonington Madrigal Singers, an adult madrigal choir, perform a wide range of music from the medieval and renaissance periods, often accompanied by recorders and other instruments. About the Director

Robert Guarino is Associate Professor Emeritus of The College of New Jersey. While at the College, in addition to teaching private voice lessons, he conducted the College choir for ten years, founded their Collegium Musicum, a small vocal and instrumental ensemble specializing in renaissance and baroque music, and was producer/director of the opera program. Mr. Guarino also served on the voice faculty of Westminster Choir College. Mr. Guarino was Supervisor of Music for the New Jersey Governor's School of the Arts and conductor of its vocal ensemble. In 2006 he was invited to conduct the NJ region II High School Honors Choir.

Robert Guarino has been tenor soloist in opera, oratorio, recital, and with symphony orchestras throughout the country.  He has appeared with the Boston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, The Opera Orchestra of New York, the Princeton Pro Musica, and the New Haven Chorale.  He has been a soloist at Carnegie Hall in Bach's B Minor Mass with the National Chorale, Bach's St. John Passion, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Berlioz' Requiem with the St. Cecilia Chorus, and Handel's Messiah with the Masterwork Chorus.  He has been the tenor soloist for the National Choral Council's "Messiah Sing-In" at Avery Fisher Hall. Guarino has sung leading roles with Michigan Opera, Atlanta Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, and the Opera Festival of New Jersey. 

He has won critical acclaim for roles spanning Renaissance to Contemporary-from Opera to Musical Theater.  A frequent guest at music festivals throughout the country, Mr. Guarino has been a soloist at the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Tanglewood, The New London Music Festival, PepsiCo Summerfare, the Wilmington Music Festival, and the Smithsonian Institution Chamber Music Festival.
